A fairly new entry on the web frontier for checking website uptime, Pingdom, looks to be a pretty good contender with the top dogs in the field. A former favorite, Zoho.com's, Site24x7.com doesn't provide the same feature list for the Free price.
Pingdom offers SMS, Twitter and Email notification of an outage. And unlike 24x7, Pingdom remains cordial when asked to check not hourly, but by the minute. Now that's a good thing.
